WAN communications for PRIMEPOWER systems offer unrestricted access to network resources |
Fujitsu Siemens Computers has responded to the communications requirements of the market by providing a rich solutions portfolio for open communication in a heterogeneous network and system environment, ranging from consultancy services, cabling and networking components (routers, switches...) to hardware and software products for server and client systems. The communication services are add-on functions on the PRIMEPOWER Solaris systems and provide the applications running on those systems with optimized access to the resources in the network. Uniform, generally recognized and standardized communications interfaces form the basis for the communications solutions offered. For PRIMEPOWER systems, transport levels 1-4 of the OSI 7-layer model for WAN communications are implemented by a WAN or ISDN communications controller plus the corresponding driver and protocol software CCP (Communications Control Program). CMX acts as a control center between the applications and their underlying protocol stacks. It separates the applications from the individual properties of the protocols and enhances the communications functions with extensive routing functions. This means that if you currently transmit your data via a dedicated line, for example, you can convert to other networks such as X.25 or ISDN without having to modify your application programs.
